Concrete Mixers Type & Related Specifications
Concrete is marked as one of the crucial materials
that is used for construction purposes at the global level. It is made using cement,
water, admixtures and aggregates such as gravel, rock or sand. A concrete mixer
is a machine that helps in mixing the required ingredients so as to form a concrete
paste. Over the years, the operations of a concrete mixer have advanced,

tasks.
Primarily, concrete mixers are divided into
Continuous Mixers and Batch Mixers. Further, batch mixers are segmented into
tilting mixers, non-tilting mixers, reversing drum mixer and pan type mixer. Below
mentioned are the common concrete mixer types and their specifications that can
prove helpful in understanding their working benefits.
Continuous Mixers
These mixers are preferred for massive
constructions sites, for instance, in the construction of bridges, dams etc.,
which require the use of heavy masses of concrete and that too in a continuous flow.
With a continuous mixer, the weighing, filling and mixing of all the concrete
ingredients together with discharging of the mixture are managed in a continuous
fashion.
Batch Mixers or Drum Mixer
Batch mixer, also known as drum mixer, is
another common category of the concrete mixer which is widely utilized to mix different
concrete ingredients. This particular type includes a revolving drum that has
fitted blades. When the drum is rotated at a certain speed, the materials get
mixed easily due to the presence of these blades or shanks. The final mixture
is then discharged from the drum and is marked ready for use.
Tilting Mixers
These tilting mixers possess a conical or
bowl-shaped drum that has vanes inside. Such mixer types are best for mixes holding
low workability as well as those which contain large-sized aggregates.
Non-Tilting Mixers
With non-tilting mixers, the concerned mixer
isn’t permitted to tilt and stays at a horizontal axis. Therefore, the
discharging action is done by inserting a chute inside the drum or through withdrawing
the direction of drum rotation.
Reversing Drum Mixers
If we are dealing with non-tilting mixers, the
drum mechanism also offers a reversing arrangement that is called Reversing
Drum Mixers. For this type of mixer, the concrete ingredients rotate in a
single direction and are further discharged in the opposite direction.
Pan Type
The pan type mixer includes a cylindrical
pan which comprises a set of blades that help to mix the concrete ingredients. Typically,
the concrete mixture is discharged through the bottom section of the pan.
